Clean up of Lookout Rocks

The Plettenberg Hotel is very much involved with the Bitou Municipality in cleaning up the Lookout Rocks and pushing for it to be declared a Nature Reserve. We have contributed to paying monthly wages towards six Bambananis (patrolsmen) who are keeping the Lookout Rocks clean and secure.

The Lookout Rocks

With the Keurbooms river in flood, massive trees and other debris were washed up onto the Lookout Rocks. Tons of wood have been lying there ever since. Liz McGrath came up with a wonderful vision to restore an old pathway that links the paved pathway just below the hotel to the seafront at the bottom of the nature reserve.

This vision has been submitted to the town council for approval. The pathway will not only benefit the guests of The Plettenberg but also the community of Plettenberg Bay.

Another great initiative undertaken by The Plettenberg was to cover the costs of removing the tons of wood from the Lookout rocks which was then delivered to the local community. This wonderful firewood will be a blessing to many underprivileged people throughout the winter months!
